Summary of this proficiency test:

On 9 April 2008 the proficiency test on Lubricating Oil started with 92 participants from 48 different countries.

On that date, the samples (1L+ 0.5L + 0.1L) were dispatched to the laboratories. Enclosed to the samples were the instructions to the participants for this proficiency test, forms for the reporting of the analysis results and the material safety data sheet (MSDS).

The samples have to be analyzed on: Total Base Number, Total Acid Number, Colour, CRC, Density @15°C, Flash Point COC and PMcc, Kinematic Viscosity @40°C and @100°C, Nitrogen, Sulfur, Sulphated Ash, Pour Point and Water and 16 elements (wear metals and additives: Ag, Al, Ba, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, Li, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Sn, Si, Ti, V and Zn).

The deadline for reporting results is set on 9 May 2008. A laboratory that sends in results after deadline will definitely not get direct feedback in case any of its results are suspect! So be in good time to get the most out of this proficiency test.
