Summary of this proficiency test:

On 28 February 2012, the proficiency test on REN/Food-Ethanol (iis11C13a) and the proficiency test on liqueurs (iis11C13b) were finished. Both PTs started 2 November 2011 (see message “Proficiency Test on Ethanol started” on this website) when the samples were distributed.

In iis11C13a 26 participants from 13 countries have participated and in iis11C13b 13 participants from 5 countries.

The participants were requested to determine on the REN/Food alcohol: Density, Nonvolatile matter, Permanganate Time Test, Purity on dry basis, Water (titrimetric), Strength (in %V/V and %M/M) and UV transmittance at 300, 270, 240, 230 and 220nm.
And on the liqueurs were done: Density, pH, Strength (in %V/V and %M/M) and sugars.

The proficiency test report summarises per test, the test results, the analytical methods reported by the participants and the z-scores calculated for each participant are tabulated. Also, for each test, the calculated summary (e.g. mean, standard deviation and reproducibility) is given.

In the report also an evaluation of the test results is given. Problems encountered in the analyses are mentioned and - where possible - suggestions for quality improvement are formulated. For each test a comparison is made between the results of the group of participants and the requirements given by the relevant standard (e.g. ISO, DIN, ASTM).
